Country Focus - Globelink Uniexco Spain

Established in 2006, Globelink Uniexco is a collaboration with Globelink's long time partner who has more than 40 years of experience in cargo imports and exports and the first sea freight cargo consolidation company in Spain.

With Madrid as its Capital city, Spain shares the Iberian Peninsula with Portugal at the western end of the Mediterranean Sea and is the fourth largest country in Europe.

The largest producer of olive oil in the world, Spain is also a country with the second-largest number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Culturally, Spain is a Western country but due to the great strength of its Roman heritage in almost every aspect of Spanish life, Spain is often described as a Latin country.

Spain maintains its special identification with Latin America with economic and technical cooperation programs and cultural exchanges, both bilaterally and within the EU.

AEO (Authorize Economical Operator) certified since October 2010, Globelink Uniexco Spain is headquartered in Barcelona with offices in Valencia, Madrid and Bilbao, offering more than 50 regular direct export consolidation services and over 30 direct import consolidation services.

The strategic location of Spain in the extreme southwest of Europe and only 14 km away from the African continent makes it a good gateway for Africa and America. Barcelona is therefore an ideal transshipment hub for all main Mediterranean, North Africa, Central and South America destinations.

It is a good option for Alexandra, Izmir, Istanbul, Tunis, Casablanca and Portugal destined cargoes.

With Spanish being the second most natively spoken language in the world and widely spoken in Latin America, it also puts Spain at an advantageous position for business with Central and South America.

OCTOBER 2011

Globelink Opens in Turkey

It is with immense pleasure that CWT Globelink announces its new office – Globelink Unimar in Turkey. This is a union of a long standing relationship between two close working partners who have been working together for more than 13 years and are very familiar to the Globelink family and network. Globelink Unimar will continue to be aggressively driven and managed by Managing Directors, Mr. Yusufi Cihan and Mr. Kicki Ugurhan, with the support of their strong and capable team members.

The growing Turkish economy is among the world's 20 largest economies and Turkey has been a member of NATO since 1952. Ankara is the capital city of Turkey but Istanbul, being the financial and trade centre, is better known to most. Istanbul is the only city in the world that is located on two continents, Asia and Europe. Asian Turkey (Anatolia) comprises 97% of the country and is separated from European Turkey (Thrace) by the Bosporus strait, the Sea of Marmara and the Dardanelles (which together form a water link between the Black Sea and the Mediterranean). European Turkey makes up the other 3% of the country.

Turkey is an important market with strong growth potential. Combining the global strengths of Globelink Group and the strong market standing and capabilities of Unimar in Turkey, Globelink Unimar will continue to grow from strengths to strengths and establish itself as the clear market leader. Turkey is one of the richest countries in the world in water resources and provides 70% of the world's hazelnuts. The nut in your chocolate bar was most likely grown in Turkey!

Headquartered in Istanbul, Globelink Unimar has branch offices located at Izmir and Bursa as well as an office at Ataturk airport to handle airfreight. It offers a wide range of activities in addition to LCL & FCL ocean freight activities, including air freight, road transportation as well as logistics capabilities. Globelink Unimar is among the market leaders for LCL & FCL activities, and will continue to strengthen the business scope and expand its geographical presence in Turkey.

 The Mediterranean Sea is connected to the Atlantic Ocean by the Strait of Gibraltar which is the main source of water for the sea.
 It has been estimated that it takes a century for the Mediterranean Sea to be completely renewed through the Strait of Gibraltar.
 The Mediterranean Sea has a very deep blue colour and the tides are not as prominent as other seas.
 The Mediterranean Sea also affects the climate of the region, which is most often wet, with cold winters and hot summers.

JULY 2011

CWT Globelink Latin America

Latin America is made up of developing and emerging markets and is divided into 20 independent countries and 10 other political units. Brazil is by far the largest country in Latin America both in area and in population and it occupies more than 40 percent of the region's land area and has about a third of its people.

In Latin America, the key economies in the region are expected to continue growing at a healthy pace of at least 3.5-5% for the next 4 years. There is significant unexploited potential in the economic relationship between Latin America and to the rest of the world. And hence, offering tremendous opportunity as a source of new inbound and outbound trade growth for the region and the rest of the countries.

In 2010, Latin America sailed away from the global financial downturn, recording GDP rates of more than 5%. Looking ahead, Latin American countries are gearing towards even greater economic development and trade. In the past decade, USA and Europe are Latin America's top trading partners. Recent years, Latin America has also offered a sizeable market and trading opportunities with Asia. This may outpaced the traditionally top trading partners in becoming the ?Gems of the East.

To tap onto the rising waves of economic and trade performance of Latin America, CWT GLOBELINK is stepping up efforts to offer comprehensive network to the region. To date, the group is offering 72 weekly direct services to the Latin American countries. Comparing to the same period in 2010, there is a 36% increase in the direct lanes served. This signifies the growing interest in the region to better serve our customers with lower cost and faster transit time.

Over the years, customers have increased their expectation when it comes to moving their cargo from one destination to another. There is also a shift from a price-oriented to a service-oriented product in the NVOCC market, therefore, it is critical for the group to continuously improve, innovate and create a niche product in order to stay competitive.

MARCH 2011

Globelink Opens Romania Office

CWT Globelink Makes Headways into Europe

Fully operational from 21st March 2011, CWT Globelink's newest addition to the family, Globelink International (Romania) SRL has a full range of services to offer its clients and support the group's network.
Located at the cross junction of Central and Southeastern Europe and bordering the Black Sea between Bulgaria and Ukraine, Romania calls Bucharest its capital city and is the twelfth largest country in Europe.
The second largest population in Eastern Europe after Poland, Romania has 16 important industrial estates. It is predominantly an importing country with re-production and re-exports to Western Europe and UK by road. Cargoes can enter into Romania either by sea or by road.
Traditionally, Romania is a FCL market as there are no strong LCL consolidators providing regular direct services with acceptable transit time. Shippers as well as consignees prefer FCL to ensure sailing time is more predictable and controllable. Sharing of box concept is never the thought of the customers but being a four-season country and the importance of "just in time" makes Romania an upcoming potential market for LCL. As Romania is geographically located between Central Europe, CIS and Russia, it can be used as a gateway to serve the LCL market in Moldova, certain parts of Ukraine, Hungary and Bulgaria. (Refer to below map)

Headquartered in Bucharest, with branches at Constanta and Otopeni, Globelink Romania offices are located in close proximity to Otopeni airport and Constanta seaport, the largest port in the Black Sea.
While Globelink Romania focuses on the core business of LCL Consolidation, it also offers complementary FCL sea freight, air freight and customs brokerage services.
There are two main seaports in Constanta – Constanta North Port and Agigea. Constanta North Port is not meant for commercial containers but mainly focusing on oil and gas, chemical and other break bulk cargoes. Agigea, Constanta South Port, is operated by DP World.

JANUARY 2011

Opening Message for 2011

The world economy generally made some recovery in 2010 albeit concerns over the slow recovery in US and Europe still persist. However, both sea and air freight reported increase in volume worldwide, with some trade lanes even surpassing volumes in 2008.
For the first 7 months in 2010, carriers controlled the supply of space and managed to impose GRIs successfully. Although the freight softened after August due to a drop in volume, most of the carriers managed to turn around and made good profits in the last year.
In 2010, there were also big fluctuations to the US currency. Most of the Asian currencies appreciated against the US Dollars. Moving forward, we foresee the world volume will continue to grow but not as fast as the speed in 2010. Carriers will continue to impose GRIs but the rise will not be at the same comparable levels as 2010.

For CWT Globelink Group, we will continue to strengthen and consolidate our LCL market position as the leading Asia player and quickly expanding into other European markets. This strategic move is evidenced by our expansion into the Eastern Europe and services into the CIS markets. 2010 had seen us making inroads into Slovenia and Rijeka in Croatia for Eastern Europe. We also expanded our presence from Spain to Portugal by providing our customers with a wider coverage of this market with the opening of our Portugal office, cementing our grip on the Iberian Peninsula. Our foothold in West Africa was also enhanced with the expansion of direct services into Nigeria and Ghana.
At the same time, back in Asia, we have tightened our network by closing the loop with the opening of our Hong Kong and Indonesia offices.

Today, CWT Globelink Group has 90 offices spread across 20 countries and together with our extensive network of service agents, connecting customers seamlessly to 120 direct ports and over 1,200 inland destinations. Expanding our global network has been very much been an important game plan for CWT Globelink and moving forward we will continue to seek such opportunities.
In 2010, we also made further head ways into International Freight forwarders (IFF) accounts. We were invited to participate in more RFQs and have been successful in a number of global tenders. This is a testimony to the fact that more global IFFs have endorsed Globelink/Global Consolidator Alliance (GCA) as a global brand name.

We will continue our efforts to heighten the awareness of the Globelink/GCA as a worthy global brand name amongst the IFFs and strengthen our market share in this market segment.
With the increased cargo volume and stabilized carrier rates in 2011, together with the support from the members of the CWT Globelink family and network, we will continue to navigate whatever uncertainty in the present economic environment, and capitalized on any favourable market conditions to bring the group to a new height.

I would take this opportunity to thank all of our customers, partners, agents and friends for your continual support and wish all of you a Prosperous, Happy and Healthy 2011.
